The present is what hhe are, and that is what counts. Baggini’s work here crafting and defending his idea of the self is well scouted, informative, and believable. The author takes a philosophical approach rather than a neuroscience view that a lot of recent books have taken. Conversely the major shortcoming is perhaps Baggini’s tendency to lash baggni against religions, philosophers, schools of thought and the like with such vehemence as to be distracting.

I picked up the book because I was feeling a sense of discontinuity with my self, so this experience made me smile. This excellent book helps explain why, and other reviewers go into the specifics of the subjects described therein.
