The single peaked at number six on the Billboard charts. This box set peaked at number 35 on the Billboard charts in its first charted week. Interestingly, listen for John to accidentally sing "that boy" instead of "this boy" at the beginning of the final verse.
Also released around this date was a fourteen-track sampler of the above album for promotional purposes, "This Boy" being included therein. It was also in the set list during their January stint at the Olympia Theater in Paris. When the first leg of their first world tour began with Jimmy Nicols on drums on June 4th, the song was still in the set list.
